AiMS Cellular Respiration Modeling Unit

The AiMS Modeling unit uses the big idea of energy to teach cellular respiration with meaning and coherence. The unit is designed for high school biology students and consists of six 50-minute lessons. Below are links to a pacing guide, a list of materials, individual lessons, and the full unit.

The links give the instructions and handouts to teach the unit, but you will need to obtain the materials. Teachers in the Tuscaloosa, Al or Athens, GA may check out materials from us. Outside of these regions, we may be able to provide financial assistance to purchase materials. Please contact Jonathan Shemwell or Daniel Capps.

GeMS Desert Modeling Unit

The GeMS Desert Modeling unit is an earth science unit that challenges students to develop a generalized model to explain and predict the occurrence of desert areas on earth. The unit was designed to support students in learning about regional and global circulation patterns and support them in synthesizing a general model for how air becomes dry resulting in the formation of deserts. The following link provides a PDF version of the unit, designed for high school earth science classrooms, but is adaptable to other levels.
