Daniel Capps

Daniel is an associate professor in Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies Education at the University of Georgia. He is interested in understanding how to design learning experiences that will support teachers and students in learning about what science is and the different ways it is practiced. When not working with Jon Shemwell on how scientific modeling can support students in learning with big ideas, Dan enjoys hiking, running, and spending time with his wife and son.

Jonathan Shemwell

Jonathan is an Associate Professor of Curriculum and Instruction at The University of Alabama. He researches how to help students meet the challenges of thinking about and learning science. Since 2015, Jon has collaborated with Dan Capps to research learning science with big ideas. Jon is a husband and father of three who enjoys sailing and fly fishing.
